Welcome to the Scottish Swedish Society!

We are a group of people mainly living in central and southern Scotland who are united by a shared interest in aspects of Sweden. Many of our members have a family connection with Sweden while others simply are interested in Swedish language and culture.

The Society promotes links and exchanges between Scotland and Sweden while making sure that important Swedish festivals such as Lucia and Midsommar are celebrated here in Scotland.

Our membership is approaching 200 and while not everyone can get to the several social events that we hold during the year, we try to make sure that there is something for everyone (Swedish-speaking and English-speaking) in our calendar of activities.

Founded in 1981, the Society is constantly seeking new ways to serve the interests of its members. Our members' views are very important in developing our activities.  The Committee meets regularly to plan initiatives to promote Scottish-Swedish connections and mutual appreciation of the uniqueness of our two small nations.

Even if you are not resident in Scotland, perhaps here temporarily for work or study, or only want to extend your scant knowledge of Sweden, we would be delighted to welcome you into the Society. If you choose to take advantage of our low subscriptions for individuals, families or couples - and meet our friendly membership, I am sure that you will find it rewarding to join.

On behalf of the Society

John Gilmour

President

We would welcome any news items from individual members who would like to inform the Society (via this website) of such events as births, marriages deaths etc or other information which may be of interest.
